Synopsis excerpt for “Machete” Written by rmlohner

The highly skilled Federale Machete is hired by some unsavory types to assassinate a senator. But just as he’s about to take the shot, he notices someone aiming at him and realizes he’s been set up. He barely survives the sniper’s bullet, and is soon out for revenge on his former employers.

Review ~Death By Low Rider~

I was going to start my inaugural weekly blog with a review on another movie.  Writing the review for this movie however, came so quickly, that I decided to just go with the flow; the flow of blood and gutts that is and I liked it!

Never has human intestines come in so handy as well as other parts of the body. Cell phone anyone. Eh hem… In Machete, almost no body part, violent gratuity or Mexican generalization is spared. It all plays out in a hearty wink with the lead character Machete (played by Danny Trejo) carrying out his own brand of justice.

This movie was exactly what I expected and more.  It’s campy and exciting. It’s gritty and sexy.  It’s Oh so very, Robert Rodriguez.

I’m always excited to see the same actors show up in Mr. Rodriguez’s films; notably Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin and I have to mention Tom Savini (makeup & special FX wizard). They’re like old friends that I can rely on to always draw me in to the fantasy. It’s especially cool to see Danny Trejo play a lead role.  I have to admit I wasn’t sure if Danny could carry this film; but carry it he did, all the way across the border and back again. Danny has been cutting his teeth on his many characters working alongside Robert Rodriguez leading up to his sharpest role yet with Machete.

I love that Robert’s female characters are kick-ass but always feminine e.g.; Michelle Rodriguez.

The additional casting in this movie is entertaining and often clever. Take for instance the choice of Lyndsay Lohan as April Booth.

Oh, and I have to mention the music which is like a character in this movie.  It helps to fuel this crazy ride.  It’s almost always dramatic and ranges from a kinda Spaghetti Western gone wild to sensual and rhythmic Latin World to classic Mexican to driving Rock with a spicy flair!!

In certain circumstances, too much “just because” carnage can turn me off; but like most people, I’ve become a bit desensitized to blood and guts on the big and small screen.  To be sure, this is a very graphic movie; but, this movie has a solid story, bad guys to boo, “good” guys to root for, inventiveness and style for days. Plus, the stunts and special FX are crazy good! It’s just fricken fun! I laughed out loud many times and remain nightmare free.

As Machete drew to a close I was  thinking; there has to be a sequel and how can I be a part of it? I’m a hot Latin chick, singer-songwriter with a flair for the dramatic!  Hey Robert , call me!!!
